Junior Lifesaving Club

Aberdeen Sports Village Lifesaving Club offers children to learn a variety of skills which they will be able to use throughout their life; first aid, life support, water safety, survival skills and rescue techniques. The club is open to children ages aged 8 years and over. The club follows the RLSS UK Lifesaving programme which provides a vast amount of opportunities for children, including open water swimming/lifesaving, training and competing in competitions at local, regional and national levels, progression to becoming a lifeguard or lifesaving instructor and lots of fun in a safe environment where your child can make everlasting friendships.

Red Squad (8-11 years)

This groups follows the Bronze & Silver awards of the RLSS UK Rookie Lifeguard Programme. With this, children primarily learn about water safety, winter safety and how to perform non-contact rescues from land. Children are also introduced to some Sport Skills, including Speed Coiling.

 

Children must be aged 8 years or over and have completed Swim Skills 3.

 

Blue Squad (8-11 years)

This group follows on from Red, where children work towards Silver & Gold awards of RLSS UK Rookie Lifeguard Programme. With this, they also achieve the Life Support award, First Aid award & Communication Award. This group allows a child to achieve the Master Rookie Lifeguard Award, upon completion of the Gold award, Life Support award & 3 Bolt on Awards.

Children will only be able to enter this group after completing the required awards in Red Squad. If a child has completed the required awards with another provider, they may be able to join the Club into this level.

 

Bronze Squad (12+ years)

Bronze squad is the first step into the RLSS UK Survive and Save Programme. This level of the award allows a child to work through and achieve the following awards; Bronze Core Element, Bronze Medallion, Bronze Support & Life Support. The awards look at Sport and Fitness, Hazard Awareness, Rescues, First Aid, Survival & Self-Rescue techniques. Children will be offered opportunities to compete in local and regional competitions, which will test their relations with scenarios and their Sport techniques. 

 

Silver Squad (12+ years)

Silver squad is the second tier in the RLSS UK Survive and Save Programme. This level of the award allows a child to work through and achieve the following awards; Silver Core Element, Silver Medallion, Silver Support & Life Support. The awards look at furthering the knowledge learnt in Bronze Squad. Children will be offered opportunities to compete in local, regional and national competitions, which will test their reactions with scenarios and their Sport techniques.  They will also be offered to complete the Young Leader qualification, which is the first step to become a Lifesaving Instructor. There will also be opportunities for children to work towards the Duke of Edinburgh Awards within this group.

Children can join this squad through completion of the Bronze Squad award. Children can also enter this group if they have completed the Bronze awards with another provider.

 

Gold Squad (12+ years)

Gold Squad is our top squad, where children will be able to work through Gold Core Element, Gold Medallion, Gold Sport and Life Support awards.  Children will be offered opportunities to compete in local, regional and national competitions. They will also be offered to complete the Assistant Instructor qualification. Children can also progress to the Silver Duke of Edinburgh award in this squad or beginning working on the Bronze award.

Children can join this squad through completion of the Silver Squad award. Children can also enter this group if they have completed the Silver awards with another provider

Upon completion of the Gold awards, children can work toward becoming a Rookie Instructor or a Lifeguard when they become 16. They are welcome to continue with the club to keep their lifesaving awards up to date and carry on competing in our Emerald Squad.

Children can join this squad if they are aged 12+years or have completed the Rookie Lifeguard Programme with a different provider or within Blue Squad.

 

Participants enrolled in the club will receive:

·         A minimum of 45 lessons per year

·         Continuous sessions during holidays

·         Free aquatics membership

·         Easy direct debit payment method with the cost of lessons spread throughout the year

·         Free logbook, certificates for every level

 

Where and when:
Lessons currently run on a Sunday evening, in the 25m pool from 5pm.  

Cost:

Rookie (1 hour) : £26.20 per month via direct debit

Rookie Plus (1.5 hours) : £32.10 per month via direct debit

Survive & Save (1.5 hours) : £32.60 per month via direct debit
