Aberdeenshire Disability Sport 5K Fun Run

Aberdeenshire Disability Sport and Metro Aberdeen Running Club are hosting a 5K Fun Run at the Beach Esplanade on Thursday 7th June 2012.

Entry fee is a minimum £2 donation, and all proceeds go to Aberdeenshire Disability Sport.

All standard of runners are welcome to enter, so if you're up for the challenge, please see the entry form for more details, and post your entry directly to Metro Running Club.

Children 1st Spring Proms Series Fun Runs

The third in a series of fun runs in aid of Children 1st took place along Aberdeen's beach prom on Thursday evening in very tough running conditions.

A total of 78 men, women and children of all levels of ability took part in the run, which featured a 3K race for all participants.

Amongst the runners were those taking part in a 3K for the first time, and experienced athletes looking to clock a new personal best. It resulted in an exciting evening & crowds gathered at the finish line to cheer on the competitors.

Free Public Lectures - Drugs in Sport

Aberdeen Sports Village is pleased to be hosting another free public lecture in conjunction with the University of Aberdeen and the NHS.

'Drugs in Sport' will be delivered by Dr Arthur Strachan from the Department of Clinical Biochemistry at ARI on Tuesday 29th May from 19:00 in ASV's Seminar Room.

NHS Keep Well Programme Success

Aberdeen Sports Village is pleased to announce that NHS Grampian has met its cardiovascular health check target for the second year in a row thanks to their Keep Well initiative.

The Keep Well programme aims to target health inequalities and improve the overall health of 40 - 64 year olds in the Grampian region through free health checks & interventions designed to promote healthier lifestyles.

Due to its success, the programme has been granted an extension by the Scottish Government to run throughout 2012/2013. NHS Grampian hopes to complete 1,500 cardiovascular health checks and follow-ups during this time.

StreetSport Sessions

Aberdeen Sports Village is working in partnership with the StreetSport project to develop opportunities for young people to take part in sport and exercise whilst reducing incidences of crime and anti-social behaviour.

The StreetSport mobile pitch will visit the following locations for the next 12 weeks.

Monday: Inchgarth Community Centre, 7pm – 9pm

Tuesday: Torry Academy, 7pm – 9pm

Wednesday: Hazelhead (Groats Road – Opposite Harlaw Academy Playing Fields), 7pm – 9pm and Kaimhill Astroturf, Garthdee, 8:30pm – 10pm

Thursday: Northfield Community Centre, Byron Square. 7pm – 9pm (With potential of carry on to 10pm), Cove and Kincorth with Blue…

Would you like to be involved in preparations for this summer's Olympic Games?

We have an exciting opportunity for the community to be involved in Cameroon’s preparations for London 2012.

Aberdeen Sports Village and RGU: SPORT, in conjunction with Aberdeen City Council, are hosting the Cameroon National Olympic Team for their Pre-Games Training Camp (PGTC) from the 2nd to the 16th July 2012 and are looking for volunteers from all areas of the community to assist the athletes during their stay.

ASV Summer Hockey League

Fancy trying a new sport this summer? Enter a team in our mixed Hockey League.

In addition to a free coaching session for each team, you'll get weekly games against other like-minded teams, prizes for League winners, and signposts to local clubs at the end of the season.

Asvill narrowly defeated in first race

ASV's mascot, Asvill the monkey, was narrowly pipped at the post by AFC's Angus the Bull on Sunday at the Sport Relief Mile.

The pair were joined by 5 of their mascot friends from all over the city in Duthie Park to meet their fans and get the runners geared up for the 6 mile, 3 mile and 1 mile race. They also took part in their own short-course race that saw Asvill finish in a respectable second place in what was his first ever competitive event.

Asvill was happy with his achievement but was even more delighted with the turn-out for the event and the determination of the 800 runners!

Multi-Sports Club for people with a Disability

We are pleased to announce that Aberdeen Sports Village is launching a Multi-Sports Club for children and adults aged 8 and over with physical, learning and sensory disabilities.

The club takes place on Sundays from 10:30 - 12:00 and will offer a range of activities including Boccia, New Age Kurling, Basketball, Athletics, Games, Trampoline and many more.

The first session is on the 29th April 2012, and you can register your interest by completing the registration form and returning to the reception team at Aberdeen Sports Village or by emailing to alison.f@aberdeensportsvillage.com

ASV Summer Hockey League

We are delighted to announce that, in conjunction with Grampian Hockey, ASV will run a Hockey League during the summer.

The League is primarily aimed at beginners and those who haven't played for a while, and offers a great opportunity to try something new. The package offers a free coaching session, the opportunity to join local clubs, and trophies for the winning team.

Gym Instructor and Personal Trainer Courses at ASV

Aberdeen Sports Village is pleased to play host to a series of Fitness Instructor Courses run by The Fitness Education Academy.

A CYQ Gym Instructor Course will be held in April and May, and a CYQ Certificate in Personal Training is taking place in June and July.

These are ideal opportunities for anyone currently working in, or planning to work in, a fitness enviroment.
