Statement from British Swimming 2/4/20;

Due to the now widespread outbreak of COVID-19, the Stakeholder Group and Local Organising Committees (LOC) within the UK, in agreement with Ligue Européenne de Natation (LEN), have taken the decision to postpone the LEN European Junior Diving and European Junior Swimming Championships, set to take place in Edinburgh and Aberdeen respectively this July.

We realise this will come as a disappointment to the athletes, teams and federations who have been looking forward to competing in this event, however, following the advice of both the UK and Scottish Governments, both of the venues involved are closed indefinitely to protect public health.

Consultation is on-going with LEN as to whether a suitable date to rearrange the championships can be found in 2021, however it is not possible to name a date at the current time. British Swimming will communicate an update as soon as one is available, but at this present time the health, safety and well-being of everyone in the aquatics community is our number one priority.

We would like to say a big thank you to the overwhelming number of customers who have been in touch and kindly said they would like to continue paying for their memberships during our temporary closure. We know our members are the very best and we are incredibly grateful.

ASV is a charity, so we are different to many other providers in that every penny we make is reinvested back into the services and facilities we provide. From classes and lessons, coaching and courses, kids programmes and sessions for our over 60s, it is your membership and support that we depend upon to provide all of this.

If you too can help over this uncertain time, please continue to support ASV by clicking this link.

All monthly memberships, other than those who complete the form at the link above, will be frozen automatically until we reopen. This means we won’t take any further payments during this period, and you don’t need to do anything. If you have paid up front for an annual membership, we will extend the end date for you when we reopen, and make sure you receive the full term.

Until we can welcome you back to ASV, do please check in regularly on our social media channels, where you will see some familiar faces with great ideas to help you to keep active at home.

Thanks again for your support, and stay safe.

Following the UK Government announcement last night increasing measures to fight the COVID-19 (Coronavirus) pandemic, ASV wishes to make the following announcement.

From 8pm on Friday, March 20th 2020 Aberdeen Sports Village will temporarily suspend all of its services, and close to the public.

All Evergreen scheduled group activities (our 60+ age membership group) will cease from tomorrow, Wednesday March 18th.

This is not a decision we have taken lightly but this is a fast-moving and complex matter and the safety of our members, visitors and staff is our highest priority.

This closure is temporary, but our schedule for reopening is unclear at this stage and we will continue to be guided by the advice we receive from Government. Rest assured we will of course let you know as soon as we can welcome you back.

ASV is a charity and your support is what we depend upon to provide the services and facilities you use. We thank you all for the support we have had during what is a worrying time for everyone.

Finally, we will keep in touch with updates on the situation, as well as regularly posting here on our website and social media channels to help keep you informed. Do please bear with us as we work to answer all customer enquiries as quickly as possible.

Thanks again for your support and we look forward to welcoming you back to ASV.

Stay safe.

With a heavy heart, Aberdeen Sports Village has made the difficult decision to postpone the 2020 Baker Hughes Aberdeen Running Festival. While a difficult decision, it is the right one which we are sure all our runners will understand and support.

The decision to postpone needs no explanation as the world fights to slow down the spread of the Coronavirus and save lives. This long-standing community event will survive and indeed thrive in 2021 and beyond, and when the time is right we will share our ambitious plans for 2021 which will be bigger and better than ever!

All the athletes and runners who registered for 2020 will be refunded automatically and we will look forward to your entry in 2021. For the moment, the most important thing is to stay safe and for those of us who need that running fix, a gentle reminder that there are many good home workouts available.

Finally, please remember to stay in touch through our social media channels, it would be great to hear from you.

Our top priority at Aberdeen Sports Village is the health and safety of our members, visitors and staff. Here is an update on what actions we are taking in response to Coronavirus.

We are carefully monitoring the Coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak and the information provided by Health Protection Scotland, the Scottish and UK Government, as well as industry governing bodies including UKActive. As part of our action plan we have stepped up the frequency and level of cleaning and hygiene throughout the facility. This means;

  • Increased cleaning to sanitise all equipment, especially in high use areas.
  • Making sure that soap dispensers remain filled in our changing rooms and toilets.
  • We have also added extra hand sanitiser dispensers around the building and we encourage you to use them - particularly in busy areas such as the gym and pools.

We have also briefed all ASV staff (including Personal Trainers and Coaches) on what to do when returning from foreign travel, in line with the Government’s latest advice.

You can help

Washing your hands frequently and covering your mouth and nose with your bent elbow, or a tissue, when you cough or sneeze will help to prevent the spread of illness. Wiping down mats, weights, and machines with a disinfectant wipe both before and after using them will also help. However if you are displaying symptoms of COVID-19 and are advised to self-isolate, we would ask that you do not visit ASV.

We will continue to monitor the situation carefully, keep you informed and notify you of any changes directly, and via our website and social media. You can also find the latest Health Protection Scotland information at

Thank you for your co-operation and we look forward to continuing to welcome you to Aberdeen Sports Village.
