Aberdeen Sports Village plays a part in record breaking bid

City Moves Dance Agency are co-ordinating the ' Big Dance Pledge in an attempt to break a world record.

At 1pm on the Friday 18th May - the day the Olympic Torch arrives in the UK - hundreds of school children across Aberdeen city and shire will join together with people across the world in a record breaking attempt called the ‘Big Dance Schools Pledge’. 

Budding dancers will perform an Olympic inspired dance created by famous choreographer Wayne Mcgregor in an attempt to smash the record for the largest simultaneous dance routine (multi venue). This is a warm up for the London 2012 celebrations.

Citymoves Dance Agency – Regional hub for Big Dance 2012 is co-ordinating the exciting event for   Aberdeen Schools.

150   P6/7 schoolchildren from five city schools will be brought together to dance the routine at Aberdeen Sports village next Friday. In preparation each school will receive a visit from a professional dance artist to learn the complex choreography. Every participant taking part will receive an official schools pledge gold medal and each school will receive a London 2012 certificate, DVD of the event and a set of professional photographs.

Event organiser – Linzy McAvoy, dance development officer at Citymoves Dance Agency said, ‘I am delighted to bring together so many schoolchildren to dance in the schools pledge. It’s a fantastic opportunity for pupils in the North East to contribute to the London 2012 celebrations and I’m sure it’s something they will remember for many years to come. ‘

Events will also taking place in the shire with hundreds of pupils joining together in inverurie.
