Kids Euro Cup Kicks-off with Record Level of Entrants
Hydrasun Kids Euro Cup kicked off on 12th June with a record number of teams entering
As UEFA Euro 2012 kicks off, Hydrasun has captured the excitement and interest surrounding the event with their very own mini tournament, which kicked-off at Aberdeen Sports Village (ASV) last night (Tuesday June 12).
Hydrasun, a leading specialist provider of integrated fluid transfer, power and control solutions to the global energy industry, is the major sponsor of the kids@asv Hydrasun Euro Cup. The event was first held in 2010 and due to its success it has attracted around 500 kids from 47 teams entering this year compared to 15 teams in 2010.
Organised as part of the kids@asv initiative, the event gives aspiring stars of the future the opportunity to play in a seven-a-side tournament at the state of the art facility, within age categories for under nines through to under 12s.
The tournament, which is running from 12–21 June, was launched last night with around 100 kids aged under nine gathering on the third-generation full-sized indoor football pitch, one of the first of its kind in the UK, which was split into three pitches for the tournament.
Kids from a wide variety of North East areas, including Aberdeen, Peterhead, Inverurie and Stonehaven, are involved in the nine day event with the hope of progressing from the group stages, to knockouts and ultimately the final.
All participants will receive a Hydrasun t-shirt and water bottle along with a Euro 2012 sticker book and stickers, all courtesy of Hydrasun. The referee will also be issuing spot prizes in recognition of fair play and sportsmanship. The overall winners will receive a free ASV summer session.
Hydrasun Chief Executive Bob Drummond said: “Hydrasun is really committed to its community involvement programme. Establishing initiatives such as kids@asv addresses the need to encourage children from an early age to get involved in physical activity through fun activities and to understand the long term health benefits of participating in sport from an early age.
“The Kids Euro Cup is the perfect opportunity to give youngsters the chance to enjoy the tremendous facilities the Aberdeen Sports Village has to offer while showcasing their abilities and skill with other kids from around the North East.”
David Beattie, Chief Executive at Aberdeen Sports Village said: “Events like this are a fantastic example of how ASV is working to ensure that the people of Aberdeen and the North East have the opportunity to get involved in sport and physical activity. It is extremely important to us that we can offer a dedicated facility which is open to everyone who wants to enjoy it.
“Following the success of the previous kids@asv tournaments, this year promises to be bigger and better than ever. We are delighted with the number of kids who have signed up and the generosity and level of involvement from the sponsors of the event, Hydrasun.”
Hydrasun became major sponsor of kids@asv in August 2010. kids@asv is a programme of affordable sports clubs aimed at getting children from all backgrounds to participate in regular exercise. Based at the Aberdeen Sports Village, the kids@asv programme provides a unique opportunity for local children to enjoy participation in a variety of sports and activities in a premier sporting environment, with high quality instruction.
