Athletics
We are incredibly proud to offer our members some of the best athletics facilities in the North of Scotland, adding a welcoming dimension to the sport of athletics in Aberdeen.
Indoor Facilities
This exceptionally bright area comprises a 135m 6-lane running straight, with specific, fully-equipped areas for long and triple jump, high jump and pole vault.
Throwing events are also catered for with a state-of-the-art indoor throws cage, providing training opportunities for hammer, discus, shot put and javelin.
This area is of great value to athletes of all ages and abilities, but with the additional resources of a free-weights multi-rack and platform, medicine ball throwing wall and wall-bars, this area would be of considerable benefit to any individual or club looking to expand their training, whether for sprint training, or general conditioning.
Outdoor Facilities
Our stadium bears the name of the former vice-Chairman of the Aberdeen Football Club, who was an educational and sporting visionary and the driving force that helped take Aberdeen Football Club to the peak of European football in the 1980's.
The original Chris Anderson Stadium has been rejuvenated with the construction of a stand seating 500 spectators to enjoy the view across our 400 metre running track, jumping and throwing areas and full size football pitch. This vast area is very versatile and has even played host to a highland games as part of our Corporate Games.
The outdoor athletics facilities also benefits from a wide range of new equipment to meet the highest standards for athletics training and national competition.
Aberdeen Amateur Club (AAAC)
We are proud to work closely with Aberdeen Amateur Athletics Club to provide an inclusive athletics pathway for all children and young adults, whether they wish to participate recreationally, or develop towards competitive athletics. Athletes attending these dedicated sessions can take out membership with Aberdeen Amateur Athletic Club where AAAC coaches are involved in the delivery of these sessions. The athletic club also runs camps during the school holidays for all age groups, reach out to AAAC to learn more.
AAAC Membership allows access to the same resources and benefits as other AAAC members, such as athlete development programme, coach and athlete education, conditioning, chance to attend talks and meetings and compete for the club.
With our partnership AAAC can offer club satellite programme at ASV in which children of all ages can be involved in athletics. One of these programmes is the Energizer programme in which ASV & AAAC can support positive change in the community through athletics.
