University of Aberdeen Performance Swimming

Providing professional coaching and a high performance pathway for swimmers based in Aberdeen.

UOAPS 1

Launched in July 2017, the University of Aberdeen Performance Swimming (UOAPS) programme is a partnership between the University of Aberdeen, Aberdeen City Council, Aberdeen Sports Village, Scottish Swimming, and affiliated partner swimming clubs in Aberdeen.

Training takes place in Aberdeen Sports Village's world-class aquatics centre. The programme is open to talented swimmers aged 12 and up, and includes youngsters at secondary school, students studying at the University of Aberdeen, and a number of full and part-time performance athletes.

ARENA is the technical sponsor of UOAPS.

The Performance Pathway

The UOAPS programme builds from local learn to swim programmes, through affiliated clubs, all the way to high performance level.

Our performance pathway shows how swimmers can progress from their local clubs or learn to swim programmes, to the UOAPS performance development squad and beyond.

A range of criteria is used to determine progression through the programme, with attendance, attitude, consistency, and aptitude all considered alongside performance.

UOAPS Performance Coaches

At every level, UOAPS swimmers are supported by talented, knowledgeable coaches who will give each swimmer the tools and support they need to perform their best.

The Performance Development Squad is coached by Jennifer Davis.

The Performance Squad is coached by Gregor McMillan, who recently coached UOAPS swimmers Conner Morrison and Toni Shaw at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympics

The High Performance Squad is coached by Patrick Miley, who has coached at Olympic, World, European, and Commonwealth Games and is the father of retired Olympic swimmer Hannah Miley, who formerly trained with UOAPS.
