ADC Divers Medal Haul at Irish Open Championships
In November, ADC took a team of 14 Age Group divers and 14 Novice divers to Dublin, Ireland, to compete in the 2023 Irish Open Diving Championship. This event had both Age Group and Novice events making it one of the few competitions where the divers get to be on an away trip with their fellow club members from various squads, across all ages. The weekend was a huge success, not only did each diver compete and dive amazingly, but the trip itself was a phenomenal team bonding experience.
The cherry on top was that we had a huge medal haul from both groups:
Novice - 4 golds, 1 silver, 1 bronze
Age Group - 6 golds, 7 silver, 5 bronze
Success at the Diving Talent Games 2023
Aberdeen Diving Club took two divers to the Swim England and Scottish Swimming Talent Games in November, Olivia Leslie and Angus Macrae. This prestigious two day event incorporates both dryland and pool elements, testing the divers physical and technical skills. The meet is also used as a selection event for the Team Z Squad.
Both divers performed incredibly well across the weekend, a testament to all their hard work! Olivia made it through to the 1m knockout finals for the top 8 competitors in the whole competition regardless of age or gender (50 divers total).
- Olivia Leslie – Girls Group D (25 divers)
- Dryland – 6th
- Pool – 4th
- Overall – 5th
- 1m knockouts – 5th
- Angus Macrae – Boys Group D (10 divers)
- Dryland – 7th
- Pool – 6th
- Overall – 8th
Following her success at this event, Olivia Leslie has subsequently been selected onto the Swim England & Scottish Swimming Team Z Squad. This squad is made up of the best young divers aged 13 and under in the UK. The programme is delivered over a 20-month period with 7 weekend training camps at various training centres around the country. At these camps the divers focus not only on their technical development and skill acquisition but are also provided with a broad education programme including nutrition, goal setting, lifestyle, independence, communication, competition planning and preparation as well as group activities to develop team cohesion.
