With the cost-of-living crisis impacting so many, we recognise the not all children have the same access to sports programmes. In 2024, ASV’s Energisers Programme powered up its efforts to bring free sports, free hot meals, and much needed support to local primary school children. The Energisers programme continues to grow, offering more sporting opportunities for local primary school children to stay active, learn new skills, and find a passion for sport – whilst releasing some energy and having fun!

This year, the Programme saw 3,823 sporting participations by local primary school children, served over 2,250 hot meals to children across 252 individual sessions in a range of sports whether it was through Athletics, Football, Basketball, or one of our other exciting sports. In Partnership with Denis Law Legacy Trust, The Energisers Programme introduced our first-ever Summer Holiday Energisers Week during the Denis Law Legacy Trust Community Festival – 5 sessions across 5 days to keep children active and engaged in sport during the Summer Holidays.

Thanks to ASV’s Energisers fantastic partners who helped make the programme a success. A big thank you to:

These partners provided expert coaching, ensuring that every child had the opportunity to try out different sports and develop new skills in a safe, supportive, and structured environment. The environment fostered growth, not only for the young participants but also for the 44 NESCol sports students who were gaining hands-on coaching experience.

The NESCol students were able to learn from our fantastic partner clubs, working alongside some amazing coaches who provided mentorship and guidance throughout the student’s time in the programme. Coby Keith, a former NESCol student, shared,

“Aberdeen Amateur Athletics Club has played a pivotal role in my development as a coach. Through The Energisers Programme, I was able to enhance my coaching skills, learn from the experienced Athletics coaches and gain hands-on experience that has help me progress to a BSc (Hons) Sports Coaching degree & I’ve continued coaching with the club”.

The NESCol Sports Students have been able to refine their coaching skills in a real-world setting, all while playing an integral part in delivering the Energisers Programme.

We also want to express our gratitude to our sponsors, Serica Energy and CNOOC International. Their support has been the driving force behind the Energisers Programme, helping us continue to offer these opportunities to local children at no cost to families.

Looking ahead to 2025, we’re excited to keep making a positive impact in our local community – offering more sessions, more sports, and more opportunities to break down barriers to sporting participation for even more of our local children to get active and have fun.

Thank you to everyone who has made 2024 such a memorable year for the Energisers Programme – to our fantastic partners, amazing volunteer coaches, the wonderful children that make every single Energisers session what it is. A special thank you to Serica Energy and CNOOC International, their commitment to our community has allowed us to keep ENERGISING the lives of young people in our area, providing them with a safe space to grow, thrive, and have fun.
