Aberdeen Sports Village welcomed five nations to the city last month as the Europe Netball U17 Championships delivered a projected economic impact of £250,150.40 for the region.
Held over three days, the international competition brought teams from Scotland, England, Northern Ireland, the Republic of Ireland and the UAE to Aberdeen, attracting athletes, coaches, officials and supporters and generating valuable visitor activity across the city.
The event drew a total of 1,113 spectators to Aberdeen Sports Village, creating a strong atmosphere across the weekend while offering local communities the opportunity to experience international sport on their doorstep.
Beyond the competition itself, the Championships generated 1,596 bed nights in Aberdeen, with visiting teams and supporters staying locally and contributing to spending across accommodation providers, hospitality venues and transport services.
The projected economic impact of £250,150.40 reflects estimated visitor expenditure during the event, including accommodation, food and drink, travel and other spending within the local economy.
Hosting events of this scale highlights the role Aberdeen Sports Village plays in attracting regional, national and international competition to the city. By providing facilities capable of supporting multi-day tournaments, the venue helps draw visitors to Aberdeen and supports economic activity beyond the competition environment.
In addition to the economic benefits, the Championships also provided opportunities for local people to spectate across three days of international netball, bringing a different sporting experience to the city and helping to inspire future participation.
Aberdeen Sports Village continues to work with partners to attract events that not only showcase emerging sporting talent, but also deliver measurable benefits for Aberdeen and the wider region.
