Two UOAPS athletes earned a podium finish at the Manchester 2023 World Para Swimming Championships.
Second year biochemistry student Faye Rogers is now a Para Swimming world champion after winning the 100m butterfly (S10 category) at the World Para Swimming Championships in Manchester earlier this month. Faye also earned two bronze medals, in the 400m freestyle and the 200m individual medley.
Adding to an already impressive performance, Faye broke the British and European records for the 100m butterfly (S10 category) in her earlier heat, and broke the record again in the finals to win the gold with a time of 105.48 seconds.

Toni Shaw, a Business Studies student at the University of Aberdeen and UOAPS swimmer, earned a bronze medal in the 400m freestyle (S9 category). This is her third World Para Swimming Championships medal for the 400m freestyle, having won silver in 2019 (London) and gold in 2022 (Madeira).
Following a standout World Para Swimming Championships debut in 2019 where she won six medals, Toni added two more to her collection in 2022. Her latest bronze medal performance in Manchester has brought her total World Para Swimming Championships medal count to nine.

Reflecting on the performances from Faye and Toni at the World Para Swimming Championships earlier this month, UOAPS Coach Patrick Miley said “the results from both swimmers are extraordinary and indicate that the next 12 months leading into the Paralympic Games will be a very exciting time – both for the swimmers and for the university”.
