At ASV, we’re proud to be part of a community where talent is nurtured, opportunities are created, and young people are empowered to grow — both in and out of the pool.
That’s why we’re especially excited to share that four of our very own Aberdeen Diving Club athletes — Nick, Niamh, Anna and Ben — are now training to become qualified diving coaches, through the brand-new Scottish Swimming Coaching Qualification (SSCQ).
What makes this moment so meaningful is that each of them began their diving journey right here at ASV through our Talent ID (TID) programme — a grassroots initiative where our coaches visit local schools to identify young people with the potential to excel in diving. It’s a key part of how we promote inclusivity and open the door to sport for children across Aberdeen, regardless of their background.
From nervous first jumps to national competitions, Nick, Niamh, Anna and Ben have already come a long way in the sport. Now, they’re stepping into coaching — ready to give back to the next generation of divers and help others follow the same path they once walked.
The SSCQ, which replaces the old Level 1 and 2 qualifications, is now the official national coaching standard for diving in Scotland — and we’re thrilled to see Aberdeen so well represented. The course began with a fantastic first weekend in Dundee, and will continue in Aberdeen and Edinburgh through May and June.
At ASV, as a charitable organisation, we’re deeply committed to creating pathways that foster talent, encourage growth, and support young people as they develop life skills through sport. Every programme we offer from Talent ID to coaching development is designed to break down barriers and make sport accessible to all.
Your support makes this possible. Donations to ASV help fund key programmes like Talent ID, improve our facilities, and provide training and volunteering opportunities for young people ready to lead.
Seeing these young athletes step into coaching is a reminder that when you invest in community sport, you’re not just building athletes — you’re shaping confident, compassionate leaders for the future.
Congratulations to Nick, Niamh, Anna and Ben, we can’t wait to see you thrive in your new roles!
