It's been a great start to 2023 for the ASV Table Tennis Academy players.
The North of Scotland Open took place in January, followed by the Scottish Schools Championships in February.
The ASV Table Tennis Academy girls led the way at the North of Scotland Open, with Kiishi Adekola (Portlethen Primary) taking the U13 girls title, and teammate Nikki Mo (Kittybrewster Primary) taking the silver.
A great performance from Maja Wojcicka (Turriff Academy) saw her take the U19 Girls title. Maja is still only 13 years old, so this was not only a fantastic performance but an impressive show in the older age category for her!
Not to be outdone, 15 year old Harry Blackhall (Kemnay Academy) took the U19 boys title, with 11 year old clubmate Victor Chen (Middleton Park Primary) taking the silver in the U13 boys event.

Following a successful performance at the North of Scotland Open, there was plenty expectation for the ASV Table Tennis Academy players going into the Scottish Schools Championships - particularly in the U12 age event with Victor Chen, Matthew Pszonka (Bridge of Don Academy), Kiishi Adekola and Nikki Mo all expected to take medals by the end of the day.
The U12 team did not disappoint, with Kiishi & Nikki repeating their success in January, and both making it to the final of the girls U12. It was Kiishi who once again came out on top taking the title, and Nikki settling for the silver.
Not satisfied there, the girls teamed up to take the title in the U12 girls doubles for a clean sweep of all girls U12 events - fantastic stuff!

The boys went all out to replicate this, with both Victor and Matthew making the semi-finals. After playing against each other, it was Victor who made it through to the final, and he wasted no time in taking the U12 boys title. Matthew wasn't finished yet though and put up a great performance to take the bronze medal in the event. Like the girls before them, the boys then teamed up and comfortably took the U12 boys Doubles title.
This meant that the ASV Academy players took all 4 available titles in the U12 events, leaving as boys and girls Singles and Doubles Champions, and adding a silver and bronze to those titles!

This time around Maja Wojcicka was playing in her U14 age category, and as was hoped went through the entire day without losing a set, securing the Scottish Schools U14 Girls Title in style!
In a hard fought U16 boys category that included Aberdeen players Daniel Tibbetts (Mackie Academy), Allan He (Mackie Academy) and Robbie Martin (Bucksburn Academy).
All three made it through to the last 8, but only Daniel made it to the final. Unfortunately it wasn't to be this time, but Daniel took an excellent silver in his first year at U16 level, and with Allan taking the bronze, and Robbie ending the day in 5th place it was another fantastic show of the ASV Table Tennis Academy players' skills and talent in the sport.
Well done to all who competed, and we can't wait to see what the rest of 2023 has in store!
