It was a weekend of celebration for ASV athletes and coaches, with success achieved at both national and international level.
Table Tennis: Home Countries International 2025
Four ASV athletes – Kiishi Adekola, Maya Wojcicka, Daniel Tibbetts, and Dean Robertson – represented Scotland at the Home Countries International in Dublin from 7 to 9 November, supported by ASV coach and volunteer Natalie Gallan.
Kiishi Adekola, who is supported by the Dr Hellen Reith Trust, delivered an excellent performance throughout the weekend, winning gold in both the Cadet Girls’ Singles and Cadet Girls’ Doubles. She also added a silver medal in the Cadet Girls’ Team event.
Maya Wojcicka claimed two bronze medals – one in the Junior Girls’ Doubles and another in the Junior Girls’ Team event. She also reached the Quarter Finals of the singles.
Dean Robertson earned silver in the Cadet Boys’ Team event and bronze in the Cadet Boys’ Doubles. Dean also reached the Quarter Finals of the singles.
Daniel Tibbetts won gold in the Junior Boys’ Doubles and added silver in the Junior Boys’ Team event. Daniel also progressed to the Quarter Finals of the singles.
These results reflect the strength and depth of the ASV Table Tennis Academy, and the progress being made by young players on the national pathway.
National recognition at the Aquatics GB Awards
ASV’s aquatics community was also recognised nationally at the Aquatics GB Awards in Newport the same weekend.
Noah Penman was named Diving Emerging Athlete of the Year following a breakthrough season, which included winning silver in the Men’s 3m Springboard at the European Aquatics Diving Championships.
Patrick Miley, who leads the High-Performance Squad within the University of Aberdeen Performance Swimming (UOAPS) programme at ASV, won Para-Swimming Coach of the Year. His work, supported by a team of dedicated coaches and volunteers, continues to develop swimmers from club level through to international competition.
Anna Sless was shortlisted for Diving Coach of the Year in recognition of her contribution to developing young divers through the partnership between Aberdeen Sports Village and Aberdeen Diving Club
Anna Sless and Noah Penman have recently relocated to Edinburgh to take the next steps in their coaching and sporting careers after progressing within ASV’s aquatics community.
Scottish Primary Schools Championships
This past weekend, there was also strong representation at the Table Tennis Scottish Primary Schools Championships in Bathgate, where a field of 43 boys and 10 girls competed for national honours. The ASV Academy was represented by Inniyan Jayaraj, Rory Winters and Shuhao Zhang, with coaching support from Max Singer, Natalie Gallan and Raj Jayaraj.
The boys’ singles began with eleven groups, with winners progressing to the second stage and all others entering the consolation event.
Inniyan progressed confidently through both the first and second stages to reach the final stage, where he completed a series of competitive matches to finish as runner-up. His strong performance also secured qualification for the British Primary Championships in Largs next April.
Shuhao won two matches convincingly in the group stage before a close 2–3 match decided progression. He continued his good form by winning his consolation group and first-round match, and later reached a tightly contested five-set quarter final.
Rory, competing in his first national event, finished third in his group and gained valuable experience at this level.
Celebrating achievement and community impact
As a charitable organisation, ASV reinvests every penny back into sport, health, and wellbeing. Our facilities, coaching teams, and partnerships across Scotland support people of all ages, from taking part in sport for the first time to competing on the international stage.
These achievements highlight the commitment of the athletes and coaches, and the wider impact of community support and charitable investment.
